{"id":16840,"date":"2025-03-07T16:55:38","date_gmt":"2025-03-07T05:55:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/?p=16840"},"modified":"2025-03-07T16:55:39","modified_gmt":"2025-03-07T05:55:39","slug":"refugees-to-rally-at-tony-burkes-office-for-permanent-visas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/?p=16840","title":{"rendered":"Refugees to rally at Tony Burke&#8217;s office for permanent visas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hundreds of refugees and supporters will hold a pre-election rally at Home Affairs Minister, Tony Burke\u2019s Punchbowl Office, this Sunday 9 March 2pm to call for permanent visas for all refugees and to oppose the Labor\u2019s anti-refugee and deportation laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three years ago, Anthony Albanese declared that under Labor, \u2018No-one would be left behind.\u2019&nbsp; But despite the promises, thousands of refugees and asylum seekers who have been living in Australia for up to 14 years are still waiting for justice and the permanent visas they need to get on with their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The promised pathways to permanency for the victims of the Fast Tack system, and for the so-called transitory persons, the refugees brought from Manus and Nauru over the past ten years, has come to nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cScores of Tamil and Bangladeshi asylum seekers handed out for Labor in the 2022 election, but Labor has turned its back on them,\u201d said Ian Rintoul, spokesperson for the Refugee Action Coalition.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHundreds were involved in 24\/7 vigils outside Labor MP\u2019s offices last year to demand permanent visas. In Sydney, the protest outside Tony Burke\u2019s office lasted 129 days.
