(See image at bottom.)<\/p>\n<p>As the dismissive quality of the ABF letter became obvious \u2013 including absurd statements about the quality of medical conditions and education on Nauru, or going to Cambodia \u2013 an angry protest developed.<\/p>\n<p>(The Nauru school is dilapidated and conditions are rudimentary at best \u2013 see photo at bottom \u2013 others available on request.)<\/p>\n<p>Australian Wilson guards lashed out at the teenagers, inflicting minor injuries (see photos). Others in the family compound, including women, were pushed over by the guards.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Nauru-teenagers1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4872\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4872\" src=\"https:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Nauru-teenagers1.jpg\" alt=\"Nauru teenagers1\" width=\"250\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Nauru-teenagers1.jpg 441w, https:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Nauru-teenagers1-170x300.jpg 170w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>\u201cGuards hit us and kicked us\u201d, one of the teenagers told the Refugee Action Coalition.<\/p>\n<p>One woman who was pushed over in the fracas has suffered a heart attack and was taken to the IHMS clinic. Another woman who swallowed washing powder in the aftermath of the protest is also in the IHMS clinic.<\/p>\n<p>The guards eventually retreated from the compound.<\/p>\n<p>The protests continued late into the night, with cries of, \u201cWe are not animals,\u201d \u201cYou don\u2019t answer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The head Wilson guard refused to respond to the complaints about the assaults and injuries inflicted on the asylum seekers. The guard told the protesters that the complaints about the assaults would be taken \u201cto the big boss tonight\u201d and there would be a response, today Thursday, 7 April.<\/p>\n<p>The escalation in the protests comes after 18 days of daily protests at the family compound. A sign of the deteriorating situation on Nauru was the graffiti, ABF=\u5350, which appeared a wall inside the family compound on Sunday night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUntil the government addresses the fundamental problem with Nauru, the protests will continue,\u201d said Ian Rintoul, spokesperson for the Refugee Action Coalition, \u201cThe asylum seekers were selectively discriminated against when they were sent there.
