(PNG immigration notice below).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Behrouz-assessment.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4926\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4926\" src=\"https:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Behrouz-assessment-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Behrouz assessment\" width=\"500\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Behrouz-assessment-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Behrouz-assessment-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Behrouz-assessment.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a>Yet, another 45 asylum seekers, who have also refused to make a protection application in PNG, have been told that because they have not made an application they have been rejected.<\/p>\n<p>Now, in an attempt to undermine the stand, Immigration has told Behrouz that because he is a refugee, he must shift to Oscar compound, as part of a reorganisation drive in the Manus Island detention centre that seeks to concentrate all those found to be refugees in Delta and Oscar compounds.<\/p>\n<p>Behrouz has refused. Immigration and Wilson Security have now threatened that he will be forcibly transferred to Oscar, from Mike (using PNG police if necessary) on Sunday morning, 24 April.<\/p>\n<p>Behrouz told the Refugee Action Coalition, \u201cI have never accepted their positive result. I want to show to all people that their process is fake. Where would you find an asylum seeker who would rather be in a \u2018negative\u2019 prison than be found to be a refugee? Only in Manus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Behrouz is one of around 50 people who have refused to recognize the legitimacy of refugee processing on Manus Island. But Behrouz has a high profile as a dissident Iranian journalist, recognised by the international writers\u2019 organisation, PEN, as a political prisoner imprisoned on Manus.<\/p>\n<p>His stand against being processed on PNG makes him an international embarrassment to both the PNG and Australian governments \u2013 so he has to be moved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mistreatment of Behrouz has highlighted the absurdity of Manus Island detention, and the farce that is refugee processing in PNG,\u201d said Ian Rintoul, spokesperson for the Refugee Action Coalition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo re-organisation of Manus detention compounds can hide the crime that is being perpetrated on the asylum seekers on Manus Island.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For more information contact Ian Rintoul 0417 275 713<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Behrouz Boochani, an Iranian asylum seeker, has never made an application for protection since he was forcibly transferred from Christmas Island to Manus Island in 2013.
