{"id":6875,"date":"2018-06-15T17:46:32","date_gmt":"2018-06-15T07:46:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/?p=6875"},"modified":"2018-06-15T17:50:09","modified_gmt":"2018-06-15T07:50:09","slug":"threat-level-raised-on-nauru-after-asylum-seeker-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/?p=6875","title":{"rendered":"Threat level raised on Nauru after asylum seeker death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canstruct, the Nauru detention management company, has declared a \u201cthreat level 3\u201d (probable) at the RPC 1 and RPC 3 in the aftermath of today\u2019s suicide.<\/p>\n<p>RPC 1 is the detention administrative centre and also houses the IHMS clinic, where the brother and the mother of the deceased Iranian man, \u201cFarhad&#8221; (not his real name) were taken this morning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_20180615_171659_result.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-6877\" src=\"https:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_20180615_171659_result-169x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_20180615_171659_result-169x300.jpg 169w, https:\/\/refugeeaction.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_20180615_171659_result.jpg 576w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>RPC 3 is the detention centre where around 250 people including children live in mouldy tents. Farhad\u2019s body was found in a tent in RPC 3.<\/p>\n<p>One man was arrested at the gate of RPC 3 this morning when a large crown gathered waiting for news of Farhad&#8217;s death.<\/p>\n<p>The Nauru government has said that they are waiting for a doctor to come from Australia to perform an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut we already know that Peter Dutton and offshore detention is responsible for Farhad\u2019s death,\u201d said Ian Rintoul, spokesperson from the Refugee Action Coalition.<\/p>\n<p>Farhad\u2019s death has added to the growing crisis on Nauru.<\/p>\n<p>People are already angry that the Afghan man dying of lung cancer is being prevented from spending his last months in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday (Thursday 14 June) afternoon, a two-year-old Iranian girl was urgently medivacced from Nauru to Port Moresby because medical neglect has allowed an infection to spread and put her life at risk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMental illness and medical neglect is deliberate government policy. Peter Dutton is quite willing to let people die and pretend that the Nauru government is responsible,&#8221; said Ian Rintoul, spokesperson for the Refugee Action Coalition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDetention on Nauru has become a life sentence.
