Labor must stop the removal of Chinese asylum seeker

The Albanese government is attempting to remove a 31-year-old Chinese asylum seeker who arrived in Melbourne less than 24 hours ago.

“Ling” (not her real name) arrived by plane in Melbourne around 9.15pm, Monday. Her visa was cancelled on arrival.

She was taken to the Melbourne Immigration Transit Authority detention facility, where this afternoon she spoke to lawyers requesting asylum in Australia.

The Minister’s office was also informed that the woman had been detained and that she was requesting legal assistance to make her protection application.

But after speaking with the lawyer this afternoon (Tuesday), she was informed she was being removed tonight. She has since been taken from MITA to Tullamarine airport by Border Force guards.

“This forced removal is a return to the worst days of previous Liberal government disregard for basic right to seek asylum in Australia,” said Ian Rintoul , spokesperson for the Refugee Action Coalition.

“Ling has a right for her asylum claim to be properly considered. Labor must stop the removal to prevent her being returned to danger in China.”
