Last minute legal action in the Federal Magistrates Court in Sydney has failed to prevent the deportation of a Tamil asylum seeker. Federal Magistrate Smith declined to grant an injunction to prevent the man’s deportation to Sri Lanka.
The Tamil is scheduled to be removed tomorrow, Wednesday 31 October, to arrive in Colombo at 00.01am, Thursday 1 November.
A protest vigil has been called at the Maribynong detention centre from 9.00pm tonight (Tuesday 29 October).
This will be the second forced removal since August, when the Australian government deported another Tamil asylum seeker, Dayan Anthony.
